How
Ski Wear Has Changed
Skiing fashions have been part of the mainstream for a hundred years, but only
now has the appliance of science made some pretty dramatic changes. Deciding on
ski wear can be a minefield when it comes to choosing the right stuff for the
white stuff.
If you have never skied before and this is your first skiing holiday, here is
some helpful advice. What constitutes ski wear? You will need a jacket,
trousers, fleece or woolly jumper, thermal underwear if you get really cold and
possibly shirts, polo necks and thermal socks. Added to this lot you'll also
want a hat (woolly or otherwise), gloves, skiing goggles and sunglasses.
Ski Wear? See Where

Only the jacket, trousers, sunglasses and goggles need to be bought from a ski
shop. You can buy the rest of your ski wear at your local camping store or Marks
& Spencer! Outer ski wear, that's the jacket and trousers, is designed for the
job of skiing and you can't really find it anywhere else. Skiing goggles have
specially designed double skinned lenses, and I strongly recommend flexible
sunglasses with no prizes for guessing why.
Buy Aggressively
Go for the best ski wear you can afford. Have a look at the really expensive big
brand ski kit like Obermeyer, Columbia or North Face, and then ask if there is the
same quality ski wear made by a less well known ski clothing manufacturer. Now I
know ski shops are expensive. In the UK their mark up on ski wear can be 100%.
Before you have collected your purchases at the counter ask for the best price
on the jacket and trousers. Haggle! You will easily get 10% off and possibly
even 20%. Believe me. It works! They may even throw the lip salve in for
nothing...
Shopping Around
Because ski wear is so expensive, there is a growing market in ski clothing
rental in the UK and it is well worth trying if you have a large family to
clothe, feed and entertain in the Alps. If you are going for the first time this
is another good reason for trying a clothing hire shop. Finally, I have just
been on Ebay and typed in 'ski wear'. There are some fantastic bargains to be
had. Definitely ask around among your friends to see what they have in the way
of childrens ski clothes. This could be even cheaper than Ebay!
